SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 12, 2012)-- An early score and a staunch defensive effort was all the University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team needed to compile its sixth straight win on Friday afternoon, downing the visiting University of Illinois Springfield, 1-0, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference clash at Wood Road Field.
Ashley Meyer netted the game's lone score just 37 seconds into the contest, her third of the year, off an assist from
Madison Pickett. The Rangers (9-3-1, 8-3 GLVC) outshot the Prairie Stars by a 7-3 margin in the opening half, ending the game with a 19-6 edge including all 10 shots on goal.
Goalkeeper
Michelle Girard tallied her fourth consecutive clean sheet as the UW-Parkside defense didn't allow UI Springfield to attempt a shot on goal. The Rangers defense has now logged 392 minutes without conceding a goal, a streak spanning five games.
The shutout streak has helped anchor the team's recent six-game win streak while pushing the squad's home unbeaten run to 25 games (21-0-4), a streak dating all the way back to the 2010 season opener at Wood Road Field.
The Rangers continue their homestand on Sunday, hosting regionally-ranked Quincy University at 2:30 p.m.
