SOMERS, Wis. (Oct. 12, 2012)-- A pair of second half goals negated an early deficit, as the University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer squad tallied its third straight victory, downing Great Lakes Valley Conference rival University of Illinois Springfield, 2-1, on Friday afternoon at Wood Road Field.

The visiting Prairie Stars (2-12, 1-10 GLVC) struck first with Mark Williams scoring a goal two minutes before the halftime break off a feed from Nikita Fadeev. UIS enjoyed a 1-0 edge at the break despite the Rangers (6-6-1, 5-6 GLVC) dominating virtually every statistical category as UW-Parkside held a 14-4 edge in shots, 6-1 advantage in shots on target and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.

UWP answered in the 55th minute with Ryan Crane getting the equalizer off an assist from Collin Monahan. Monahan emerged as the hero 36 minutes later, scoring the game-winner in the 81st minute off a corner kick after the UIS goalkeeper mishandled the ball.

"It's a good start to a very special weekend for the men's soccer program," said head coach Jason Zitzke.

"Rick Kilps, Thom Peer and the 1994 men's soccer team are all getting inducted to the UW-Parkside Hall of Fame on Saturday, so it's important for us to perform well and adhere to the high standards those coaches and players built. The great field, facilities, uniforms and support we enjoy today are all due to the commitment and dedication of Kilps and his team's and we're excited to honor that."

The Rangers ended the night with a 21-7 edge in shots, including a 9-2 edge on shots on frame.

Nick Huftalin recorded the win between the posts, making one save while his counterpart, Jack Turnachik, tallied eight saves in 90 minutes of work.

UW-Parkside returns to the pitch on Sunday, hosting Quincy University at 12 p.m. at Wood Road Field.
