The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team got back on track with a 4-1 win at Illinois Springfield on Sunday afternoon. Shannon Becker had a goal and assisted on three others to lead the Rangers to the victory and a 3-1-0 start in GLVC play. The Prairie Stars fell to 1-2-1 in the league.

"It was good to get a win after the loss Friday," said head coach Troy Fabiano. "We still need to focus on playing a complete 90 minutes. Today we played well in spurts and then we struggled. We will have to be more consistent if we are going to be successful."

Parkside put the pressure on early with a handful of shots, including two on goal, in the match's first ten minutes. They forced UIS goalkeeper Kelli Kubal to make four saves in the opening half before finally getting on the board.

Megan Owens notched her third goal of the season following a Ranger throw-in for a 1-0 lead in the 39th minute. Emily Konior and Shannon Becker assisted on the goal giving Parkside its first, first half score of the season.

The lead doubled when Natalie Brown blasted her second goal of the season, this one from 25 yards out to make it 2-0. Becker was credited with the assist in the match's 63rd minute.

Illinois Springfield responded quickly to get the deficit back to one.  Liz Perrenot got her first goal of the season from about 19 yards away after a Ranger foul to cut the lead in half.

But the Rangers offense made sure there would be no comeback for the Prairie Stars on Sunday. Stephanie Barsuli scored her third goal of the season in the 77th minute as she headed in a corner kick from Becker for a 3-1 lead.

Becker then wrapped things up as she booted home her first goal of the year, this one from Brown, to close out the scoring and give the Rangers the match.

"We need to be sharper with our finishing," commented Fabiano. "We created numerous chances but we did not finish (today)."

Cassie Glodowski was credited with the win in goal giving her a 3-1-0 mark on the season. She made three saves on the day.

The Rangers will return home next weekend for a pair of GLVC contests. Friday they will take on Missouri-St. Louis at 1:15 p.m. at Wood Road Field. They finish the weekend on Sunday with a noon start against Maryville.
