The UW-Parkside women's soccer team earned a key Great Lakes Valley Conference victory on Sunday with a come-from-behind 2-1 win over Indianapolis. The Rangers improved to 2-0-0 (2-0-0 overall) in the league with their first win over Indianapolis since 2007. The Greyhounds dropped to 2-2-0 overall and 0-2-0 in the GLVC.

"The girls showed a lot of character today," said head coach Troy Fabiano. "Going down a goal and responding with two goals in less than two minutes shows a lot of heart."

The teams played to a first half stalemate and seemed headed for the 0-0 tie they had a year ago. Last season the Rangers outshot the Greyhounds 22-5 but this year's line was much tighter.

Indy grabbed the lead in the 56th minute on Libby Anderl's first goal of the season. Morgan Binder assisted for the Greyhounds who looked to continue their recent success against the Rangers.

Minutes later Fabiano inserted a fresh Stephanie Barsuli into the lineup and his move paid off handsomely. Only five minutes after checking into the game, Barsuli registered her first goal of the season, off an assist from Madison Pickett, and the Rangers had knotted the score at one.

Parkside kept the pressure on the Greyhounds and earned a corner kick just over a minute after tying the score. Shannon Becker teed it up and found Barsuli again who finished off her second goal in 1:23 to give the Rangers their first lead of the game. The Barsuli goals were also the first for Parkside against Indianapolis since that 2-0 win in 2007.

The Rangers nearly got another goal four minutes later when Kristen Benson's shot dinged off the post. Freshman Emily Konior also got a shot on goal from a Becker corner kick shortly after as the Rangers kept pressing the defense.

From there, Cassie Glodowski faced just one shot on goal as Kelly Donnelly put one on net after an Indy corner kick. For the match, Glodowski recorded six saves in moving to 2-0-0 on the year.

"Any time you get a win on the road in the GLVC it is a good result," said Fabiano. "As always this early in the season we have a lot of work to do but we are excited to finally get some games under our belt and the 2-0 start."

Parkside finished the day out-shooting Indianapolis 15-13 overall and 9-7 on goal.

The Rangers will be in action again on Friday when they head to Quincy to take on the Hawks. The teams met twice a year ago with Parkside earning a pair of 1-0 victories.
