Kenosha, Wis.- The UW-Parkside baseball team wrapped up its season by dropping a doubleheader to Lewis University on Tuesday night at Carthage College. The Flyers claimed a pair of 8-4 victories to secure the sweep. The Rangers finish the 2011 campaign with a record of 15-28 overall and 12-20 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. They took another step forward with a five-game improvement in the GLVC in Head Coach Joel Weaver's second year.

Game One

Lewis got the bats going immediately against Nick Mishevich in the opener. The Flyers got a run in the first and never looked back. They added five in second, thanks in part to a three-run home run by Andrew Brauer, and two more in the fourth to take control.

The Rangers got one back in the bottom of the fourth when they loaded the bases with nobody out. Kirk Haviland came through with a one-out sac fly but Matt Zicher pitched out of the rest of the inning and limited Parkside to just the one run.

Parkside had a chance at big inning go by the wayside in the seventh. Two singles and a walk loaded the bases before John Brennan was hit by a pitch to drive in the second run. But a groundout ended the threat and the Flyers took an 8-2 lead into the eighth.

The Rangers kept the pressure on getting two unearned runs in the eighth to make it 8-4. Dave Lojeski walked and Haviland reached on an error to put the first two men on. Alex Zarek then lined the inning's only hit to score Lojeski. After a double play, Taylor Schwarz chopper to second was misplayed allowing Zarek to score and get Parkside back within range.

Josh Hudnut was strong in relief going the final five and two-thirds innings without allowing a run. Zarek and Schwarz each had two hits to lead the offense.

Game Two

The Rangers drew first blood batting around and scoring four unearned runs in the opening frame. Mike Anderson reached on an infield hit and went all the way to third as the third baseman threw the ball away. Corey Stonelake promptly brought him in with a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

They rallied for three more after the second out. Kirk Haviland doubled and Gentry VanAllen was hit by a pitch to re-start the rally. Brad Liermann followed with a grounder to short that was bobbled to keep the inning alive. The Rangers made them pay with another hit batter to drive in a run and a two-run double by Taylor Schwarz to produce the 4-0 lead.

But Lewis answered with a big inning the third going through the order themselves as Ryan Windt had some control issues. Four walks in the inning, including two with the bases loaded, chased Windt with the Rangers up 4-3. Jack Olson came on in relief but was greeted by a bases clearing double to give the Flyers a 6-4 lead.

Lewis added to their lead in the fourth as their top of the order did damage again as they took advantage of a Parkside error with a two-out, two-run double to go ahead 8-4.

The Rangers threatened in the sixth with the bases loaded but Zarek flew out to the gap in left to end the inning.

Parkside out-hit Lewis 11-10 in the game but left 10 runners on base. Anderson had three hits to lead the way for the Rangers in game two. Stonelake and Lojeski each had two hits while Schwarz drove in two.
