Indianapolis- The UW-Parkside Baseball team got its' bats going in a big way on Saturday at Indianapolis. The Rangers, after scoring just 18 runs during their seven-game losing streak, busted out for 30 runs in winning twice at Indianapolis. They won the opener, 12-0, and then came back to win a slugfest in game two, 18-10. Parkside improved to 7-7 in the GLVC and 8-15 overall. Indy dropped to 9-7 in the league and 18-8 overall.

"Up and down the lineup guys were just coming up with great at-bats," said Head Coach Joel Weaver. "We used a lot of action today ... hit-and-runs ... steals. It seemed like every time the guys came up with a a great at-bat."

Game One
The offense got started in the second inning after the game was delayed by two hours. Robert Bellish delivered a bases loaded single to get things underway. Ben Korman knocked in a run with a groundout before Mike Anderson provided a big two-run single to make it 4-0.

The Rangers added three more in the third to build a seven-run advantage. Dave Lojeski and Corey Stonelake both singled and moved up a base on a double steal. John Persyzk drove them both in with a hit and scored a few pitches later on another Bellish single.

Stonelake added one in the fourth with an RBI-double and another in the sixth on a sacrifice fly. Kirk Haviland, Taylor Schwarz, and Perszyk added three straight, run-scoring hits in the sixth to cap the 12-0 victory.

Lost in the scoring barrage was pitcher Ryan Windt who threw a complete game shutout to improve to 3-2 on the year. Windt scattered six hits while walking three and hitting two batters. He locked in with runners in scoring position, limiting the Greyhounds to 2-for-14 in those at-bats.

"Ryan pitched extremely well today," said Weaver. "He had a great fastball today and I think he really set the tone for us on the mound for the entire day. They are very good offensively and he never really allowed them to get comfortable."

Parkside had five players with multiple hits in game one led by Lojeski and Stonelake with three apiece. Perszyk had two hits, three RBI, and three runs scored. The Rangers were 12-for-23 with runners on base and drove in nine runs with two outs.

Game Two
In game two the Rangers pounced again, scoring three runs in the second inning. Perszyk brought the initial run across with a one-out single. Schwarz came in on a wild pitch for the second run and Bellish continued his nice day with an RBI-single of his own.

They kept the pressure on in the third adding to the lead. Schwarz drove in a run with his second hit of the game and Perszyk followed with a sacrifice fly, his fifth RBI of the day.

The Greyhounds responded scoring six runs over the next two innings to capture the lead. The Rangers defense contributed to two unearned runs in the third before Indy broke through with a four-spot in the fourth to take a 6-5 lead.

Faced with a deficit for the first time, Parkside answered in a big way. The Rangers put up six runs in the fifth inning to re-take control of the game. Perszyk knocked in yet another run to tie the game. Bellish followed with a two-run hit, giving him five RBI on the day. Korman and Lojeski added RBI-singles around a run scoring error, and the lead was 11-6.

"I'm really proud of how we came back after they took the lead," said Weaver. "We didn't let what they did stop what we were doing. We never changed our approach."

They continued to pour it on the sixth with seven more runs. Korman was hit by a pitch with the bases jammed and Anderson came up next with a run-scoring single of his own. John Brennan drew a bases loaded walk in front of a booming double by Lojeski, clearing the bases and making it 17-6. Stonelake completed the scoring with an RBI-ground out for the 18th run.

Indy put together another late rally, scoring four runs in the seventh, to provide for the final tally.

Nick Mishevich picked up the victory tossing the final three-plus innings. Six more Rangers had two-hit games with Lojeski driving in four runs and Perszyk and Bellish each knocking in three.

"It was almost like (Perszyk) turned a corner today," said Weaver. "He was locked in right from the first at-bat. Every time he was up he came up with a great at-bat."

The Rangers and Greyhounds will wrap up their four-game set Sunday at Indianapolis. First pitch is set for 11:00 a.m.
