Romeoville, Ill.- The UW-Parkside Baseball team struggled once again offensively as they dropped a GLVC-doubleheader to Lewis University. The Rangers lost game one, 8-2, before falling in game two, 14-2. Parkside has now dropped seven straight games and is 5-7 in the GLVC (6-15 overall). Lewis is 8-4 in the league (15-8 overall).
Game one was tight into the late innings when Lewis broke away.
Parkside got on the board in the third when
Mike Anderson doubled to drive in
Ben Korman. Korman had started the inning with a double and got to third on a sac bunt by
John Brennan.
After Lewis tied it in the bottom half, the Rangers re-took the lead.
Alex Zarek delivered a one-out single with the bases loaded to score
Corey Stonelake, but
Kirk Haviland was thrown out at home to thwart the rally.
From there, Lewis' offense started to get going. They scored two runs in the fifth, two more in the seventh, and three in the eighth to provide the 8-2 margin.
Haviland and Anderson each had two hits in the opener as the Rangers banged out nine for the game.
Nick Mishevich threw a complete game in falling to 0-2. Six of his eight runs allowed were earned.
In game two, the Flyers took an early lead with a two-run home run by Kyle Thomas in the bottom of the first. The score remained that way until Lewis exploded in the third inning to put the game out of reach. They put 11 runs on the board in the frame thanks to nine hits, two walks, two hit batters, and an error.
Parkside got one run back on a
Dave Lojeski home run in the fourth. They scored their other run in the sixth on a double play groundout.
The Rangers were limited to four hits in game two.
Parkside will hit the road this weekend for a four-game series with Indianapolis. First pitch on Saturday will be at 11:00 a.m.
