Wayne State downs Rangers

The UW-Parkside baseball team dropped a tough 15-7 decision to Wayne State on Sunday afternoon in Evansville, Ind.  The loss drops the Rangers to 0-4 on the season.  Wayne State improves to 2-3.

The early innings looked very promising for the Rangers as they jumped out to an early 4-0 lead.  In the bottom of the second, Gentry VanAllen had an RBI double to start the scoring for the Rangers.  The Rangers were then able to load the bases when John Brennan drove in two with a two out single.  Parkside was able to score once more when Mike Anderson singled in another run.

However, the lead did not last long as Wayne State responded with four runs of their own in the top of the third inning.  Wayne State added another run in the fourth inning to take a 5-4 lead on an RBI single by Luke Farrar.  The Wildcats pushed another run across in the sixth on an RBI single by Justin Beranek.

After eight innings the Rangers trailed 8-5.  The ninth inning proved to be the end for the Rangers as Wayne State scored seven times in the top of the frame.  The Rangers scored two in the bottom of the ninth to conclude the game 15-7.

Mike Anderson led the way for Parkside going 3-5 with an RBI.  Dave Lojeski had two hits and two RBIs.  Josh Hudnut took the loss for the Rangers.

The Rangers will look to get on track Monday March 7.  The Rangers will take on St. Cloud State starting at 11 a.m. at Southern Indiana.
