Evansville, Ind.- The UW-Parkside Baseball team dropped a doubleheader to nationally-ranked St. Cloud State University of Saturday afternoon. The Rangers (0-7) lost the opener 4-3 before fallling in the nightcap 15-3. Three of the Rangers seven losses this year have come against the Central Region's top-ranked team.
The Rangers trailed 1-0 in the fourth when
Corey Stonelake nailed a two-run home run to flip the game and the lead in favor of Parkside. The score remained 2-1 into the seventh when the Huskie broke through against starter
Gentry VanAllen.
A lead-off walk, sac bunt, and RBI-double chased VanAllen from the game with the score tied.
Nick Mishevich received no help from his defense as an error, fielder's choice bunt, bunt single, and sac fly push two more St. Cloud runs across to make it 4-2.
The Rangers threatened in the ninth as
Robert Bellish came up with two runners on and knocked an RBI-single through the right side. Unfortunately the other baserunner was thrown out at third to end the game.
VanAllen took the loss despite the quality start allowing three runs on just four hits over 6 1/3 innings. Stonelake scored twice and drove in two to lead the offense.
In game two St. Cloud gained control immediately scoring eight runs in the first inning; seven of which were unearned. The Huskies pounded out 21 hits and scored in five of the seven innings played to account for the final tally.
Stonelake had another nice game at the dish with his second home run of the day to go with a walk and two runs scored.
Mike Anderson and
John Perszyk each added an RBI.
The Rangers are back in action Sunday in Evansville taking on Illinois-Springfield in a non-conference game at noon before finishing up the trip with another game against St. Cloud State.
