The UW-Parkside women's basketball team clinched the No. 2 seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference tournament thanks to a 67-51 victory in the last regular season game at Saint Joseph's College. The game was contested in Rensselaer, Indiana, Saturday afternoon.
Parkside will host the No. 11 seed, Bellarmine, Saturday, Feb. 26, in a first round GLVC tournament game. Should the Rangers win, they will be a part of the final six which will compete at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri, the following weekend. The Rangers would then draw a bye in the second round, awaiting the winner of a second round game in semi-final play.
The Rangers methodically pulled away from the Pumas in the Scharf Fieldhouse. The team grabbed a 34-23 halftime lead and out-scored their hosts by five in the second half. Parkside led by as many as 21 points on two different occasions in the second half.
A balanced Parkside attack was headed by
Brittany Hogen, who scored 14 points.
Jadee Rooney added 13 to the winning cause.
Amy Selk grabbed 10 rebounds for the winners, who improved to 21-5 overall. The 15-3 GLVC mark is tops in Parkside school history.
