Box Score
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's soccer team controlled much of Sunday's match against the University of Southern Indiana but was unable to get one in the back of the net and had to settle for a scoreless tie. The Rangers outshot the Screaming Eagles 31-10 for the match and put 13 on but couldn't push one past USI keeper, Stephanie Bodamer.
Parkside had plenty of good chances to get one on the board in the first half.
Kristen Benson had a shot fly just wide in the 28
th minute. Shortly after she had a header go just high as the Rangers kept the pressure on.
Just before the half
Shannon Becker fed Benson on a nice cross but her header was blocked by a USI defender. The half ended with Parkside holding a 15-2 shot advantage.
USI got some momentum going early in the second half a got a couple shots at
Cassie Glodowski but weren't able to get in too deep.
The best chance of the day came in the game's 66
th minute when Parkside earned a penalty kick. A deep ball into the box was dropped by Bodamer and she was called for a foul as
Crystal Chalery made a play on the rebound.
Becker took the penalty kick but Bodamer read the play and was able to catch the shot and keep the match tied.
Parkside continued to make strong runs at the net but each time the Eagles were able to turn them away. The final few seconds of regulation may have been the most exciting.
With about 30 seconds left,
Kristen Benson took a shot from deep that looked to curl underneath the crossbar but Bodamer leapt to punch it over the net. The Rangers then sprinted to get off their corner kick before the horn and after a scramble in the box, Chalery got a final boot with two seconds left and it went wide to send the match to overtime.
The Rangers controlled the extra sessions but really only had one good opportunity to score. In the first overtime, Becker sent a nice cross to
Madison Pickett but Bodamer was able to dive on it and preserve the tie.
The keepers were both up to the task all day throwing a pair of shutouts. Bodamer recorded 13 saves while Glodowski had seven.
The tie drops the Rangers into fourth place in the league at 7-2-1, a half game behind Bellarmine. USI, who knocked off nationally ranked Northern Kentucky earlier this season, is now 5-4-1 in conference play.
Parkside will be back at home again next weekend to wrap up its regular season home slate. The Rangers will host William Jewell College on Friday at 1:15 p.m. in the teams' first contest as GLVC opponents.
