Box Score
The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team was unable to get the ball in the net on Sunday and suffered a crushing 1-0 loss to the University of Southern Indiana in overtime. It was the first loss of the season at home for the Rangers who fell to 6-5-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
"The reason we lost the game is cause they scored and we didn't," stated head coach
Jason Zitzke. "In the end we didn't
score when we had a chance and they did."
In match that featured plenty of physicality, and whistles, the Screaming Eagles were able to finish off the game's only goal just over five minutes into the extra session. Rush Dugger headed in a pass from Miles Durham in the 96th minute to end the match and send USI into a celebration.
The game featured four cards and 34 fouls combined. The other statistics were relatively even as evidenced by the score.
Parkside outshot the Screaming Eagles 14-11 on the afternoon. They also had a decided advantage with corner kicks at 8-2.
But in the end it was USI who was able to break through for the win. Ben Dempsey got the victory in goal for USI while
Ryan Onwukwe took the loss for the Rangers.
Parkside will look to bounce back at home next weekend when they host another pair of league contests. The Rangers will welcome William Jewell College to Wood Road Field for the first time as a GLVC opponent. Kickoff on Friday afternoon is set for 3:30 p.m. Rockhurst will then come to town for the season's final home game on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
