Road Tough on Men's Soccer

Offense Unable to Find Rhythm Away From Home

Bellarmine took a key conference match-up from the Rangers on Sunday
Box Score

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside men's soccer team continued its struggles on the road with a 2-0 loss at Bellarmine on Sunday. The Rangers have been outstanding at home this season (5-0-0) with 15 goals scored but fell to 0-4-1 with just one goal away from Wood Road Field.

The Rangers put the first shot of the match on goal just under six minutes in but from there Bellarmine upped the pressure. In a match that featured five yellow cards it was Parkside's first that led to a Knight goal.

Christian Stoiber was whistled for a foul on Dan Schiavi who was in the box, leading to a penalty kick. Cole Page made good on the opportunity in the match's 20th minute as he finished the PK for a 1-0 lead.

The Rangers were unable to put together sustained threats as Bellarmine outshot them 11-3 in the first half and 24-7 for the match.

Ryan Onwukwe was solid in goal for Parkside recording 10 saves on the match with five in each half. Andrew Krenzien helped keep the deficit at one late in the first half with a defensive save behind Onwukwe.

The Knights were able to add an insurance goal in the 71st minute when Robert Bowling finished off a pass from Dan Schiavi from about 10 yards away to make it 2-0.

Despite the tough luck on the road, the Rangers defense remained strong. They have allowed just six goals all season in five matches away from home.

Parkside will return to Wood Road Field this weekend and look to continue their perfect home start with a match against Kentucky Wesleyan. The men will kick off at 3:30 p.m. on Friday against the Panthers.
