The UW-Parkside women's basketball team suffered their first loss in Great Lakes Valley Conference play, falling 72-61, at Quincy University Thursday night. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak.
The Rangers are 12-3 overall and 6-1 in league play. Quincy, ranked No. 23 in the nation, is now 13-1 overall and 5-1 in league action.
The game was close throughout the first half with neither team gaining anything better than a five-point lead. Quincy led, 18-13, with just under 7 minutes to play when the Rangers went on an 8-0 run to take a 21-18 advantage.
The Rangers went into halftime with a 26-23 lead.
There were two key points in the second half which allowed Quincy to come away with the victory. With the Rangers ahead 39-36, Quincy went on an 11-2 run to take a 47-41 lead. But, the Rangers didn't give up and were trailing 59-55 with just over 2 minutes to play. Quincy went 13-14 from the free throw line to close out the game and preserve its win.
The Rangers had a big game from Jadee Rooney, who scored 26 points including 10-10 from the free throw line. Kristen Ruchti added 16 points. In addition, Amy Selk and Brittany Hogen had double digit rebound games, getting 13 and 11, respectively.
Next, the Rangers will head back home for another conference match-up, this time with Northern Kentucky on Saturday January 15. Tip-off in the DeSimone Gymnasium is at 1:00 p.m.
