The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team was shutout by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI falls to 5-1-0 and to 3-2-0 in the GLVC, while UWP jumps to 5-1-0, 5-0-0 GLVC.
After the teams played to a scoreless tie in the first 45 minutes, Rangers junior forward Shannon Becker scored twice to lift the Rangers victory. Becker scored her seventh and eighth goals of the year, both unassisted, at 59:55 and 74:14.
Becker now leads the Great Lakes Valley Conference in goals scored with eight.
Becker's goals broke a streak of 311 minutes of scoreless soccer turned in by the Screaming Eagle defense. The Rangers put 20 shots on net in the game, compared to nine for USI.
The Rangers return home Friday, Sept. 24, to face Northern Kentucky University (5-0-1, 4-0 GLVC) at 3:30 p.m. at Wood Road Field. The game will feature the No. 5 ranked team in NCAA Division II, Northern Kentucky, versus the Rangers, who check in at No. 22. The poll is conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
