UWP hands Saints a goose egg

            The record of the UW-Parkside women's soccer team in Great Lakes Valley Conference play was elevated to 3-0-0 after a 5-0 trouncing of visiting Maryville University at Wood Road Field Sunday afternoon. The Rangers are 3-1-0 overall, with the lone blemish, a 1-0 loss to Saginaw Valley State, a team which reached the NCAA tournament last season.

            The win gives head coach Troy Fabiano his 150th career victory at UW-Parkside. Now in his 13th season at the helm, Fabiano is a fabulous 150-56-18.

            UW-Parkside tallied just 4:08 into the game. Kristen Benson scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal with an assist from Shannon Becker. The Rangers held a 2-0 lead at halftime as a result of Lauki'i Cheng's goal at 31:05 which again saw Becker get an assist.

            Becker scored two of her own in the second half. She was set up by Cheng at 56:37 and then came back for an encore at 79:57 with help from Crystal Chalery and Madison Pickett.

            Cheng tacked on the fifth and final goal at 81:54 on an assist from Kelsey Kryzyaniak.

            Maryville, a school which joined the GLVC last year, dropped to 1-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in league action.

            Next up for the Rangers are a pair of road matches. The team will be in Owensboro to tangle with the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College on Friday, Sept. 17, before moving to Evansville to battle Southern Indiana on Sunday, Sept. 19.

            The next home game for the Rangers is Friday, Sept. 24, when the team takes on arch-rival Northern Kentucky at 3:30 p.m.
