Tough day at the ballyard

The baseball teams had to hang around and wait for the rain to stop at Oberbruner Field Saturday. Once the tarp was pulled and a delay which had reached 95 minutes, visiting Missouri-St. Louis and UW-Parkside played a doubleheader. The Tritons won both halves, 11-8 and 19-7.

In Saturday's opener, the Tritons jumped to a 4-0 lead in the middle of the fourth and were never headed. The score stood at 9-8, UMSL, after six innings, but the visitors tacked on a couple of insurance runs and hung on.

Ranger starting pitcher Chris Wolcott took the loss. He gave up eight earned runs in five innings.

At the plate, Paul Pulera had the hat trick in hits for UWP. Mike Pena and Tyler Gieseking had a pair of knocks. Jon Hasser hit his second home run in as many days.

The second game saw UMSL score 15 runs in the top of the second inning. Last weekend, the Tritons also had a 15-run frame. This time is was walk-aided, as the team coaxed nine in the inning.

Dave Watson homered for Parkside.

Nick Mishevich was the losing pitcher.

The Rangers, now 10-21 overall and 5-11 in league play, will host Cardinal Stritch in a non-conference game Wednesday, April 7, at 2:00 p.m.
