Baseball in Dunn Hospitality Invitational

The UW-Parkside baseball team is taking part in the Dunn Hospitality Invitational in Evansville, Indiana, this weekend. The event is being hosted by the University of Southern Indiana.

The schedule calls for the Rangers to play a pair of clubs UWP head coach Joel Weaver was an assistant coach for, twice.

The following are the Ranger box scores through Saturday.

The Rangers began their portion of the invitational by knocking off host Southern Indiana, 7-2. The Screaming Eagles are ranked No. 26 in the nation. Parkside plated three in the top of the first inning to set the tone. Alex Zarek was the winning pitcher, going all nine innings. He scattered eight hits and gave up two earned runs.

Game 2 for Parkside was against Wayne State (Neb.) and was a 10-7 Ranger winner. The triumph marked the third consecutive win for the rebuilding Rangers. Jon Kleinmeyer was the winning pitcher, going six-and-two-thirds innings. Chris Wolcott logged a two-and-a-third inning save with only one hit. Parkside scored four in the top of the third and three in the top of the fifth and then held on. Taylor Nehls and Mike Pena each had the hat trick in hits.

The second game, against Southern Indiana on Saturday, saw the Sreaming Eagles come back from a 6-3 deficit to score a 7-6 win. Nick Mishevich was the losing pitcher in relief.
