Game 1 Game 2
The Ranger baseball team earned a split of a doubleheader with visiting Lewis Sunday afternoon. After dropping the first game, 2-0, UW-Parkside came back to post a 4-3 victory. The final result allowed the Rangers to take three of four from the Flyers over the weekend.
In Sunday's opener, Flyer Pat Lahey fired a three-hitter in a seven inning game. His team scored single runs in the third and seventh inning.
Chris Wolcott was the tough-luck losing pitcher. He went five-and-a-third innings, giving up just one run. He struck out six, but walked five.
Joel Bergmann did not give up an earned run the rest of the way.
In the final game of the weekend,
Jon Kleinmeyer shut the door in relief, picking up the win. The game ended with Lewis runners on second and third in the top of the ninth. Kleinmeyer got the ground ball needed to terminate the contest.
Parkside pulled it out with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, giving the home team a 4-2 lead. Lewis failed to field a pair of bunts, opening the door for the opportunistic Rangers. UWP plated its runs on a bases-loaded walk to
Kirk Haviland followed by fielder's choice ground-out off the bat of Mike Bjerke.
Lewis out-hit the Rangers, 9-5, in the nightcap.
Parkside is now 9-16 overall and 4-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Lewis is 14-16, 5-7.
The Rangers will travel to NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee for a pair of seven-inning games on Tuesday.
