The men's soccer team fell victim to hosts St. Joseph's College Friday night in Rensselaer, Indiana. The visiting Rangers fell behind early and were unable to respond as they dropped a 2-0 decision. The loss brings the Rangers record to 4-4-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the GLVC. The Pumas overall record and conference record improves to 4-3-1.
The Pumas got off to a fast start in the first half when Kevin Amaizo picked up a loose ball in the box and fired a shot past UWP goalkeeper Ryan Onwukwe at 8:00. The Rangers continued to stay aggressive and outshot the Pumas in the half, but failed to score.
The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
The second half was closely contested as neither team had very many scoring opportunities. Both clubs combined for only five shots in the second half. The Rangers continued to trail by one goal until Kevin Amazio struck again for the Pumas at 82:00 to seal the victory.
The Pumas and Rangers each finished the game with 6 shots on goal. Spencer Bursten had a solid performance accounting for three of those shots. The Pumas slightly edged the Rangers 6-4 in saves and 3-2 in corner kicks.
The Rangers will look to rebound this Sunday when they travel to the University of Indianapolis to take on the Greyhounds. The game is scheduled for a 2:30 P.M. start.
