The UW-Parkside women's basketball team, with its 17-3 overall record, has been ranked No. 3 in the Midwest Region by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee. This is the highest region ranking ever achieved by any UW-Parkside women's basketball team.
This is the first set of region rankings. They will continue each Wednesday through March 3. NCAA tournament selections will be Sunday, March 7.
The top 10 teams from each region are ranked. At season's end, eight teams from each of the eight regions will qualify for the NCAA tournament.
Noteable in the region rankings are Ranger wins over other ranked opponents including Florida Southern (5th in South), Winona State (9th in Central), Drury (4th in Midwest) and Northern Michigan (8th in Midwest).
UW-Parkside's next two games, both at home, are key. The Rangers host Southern Indiana (6th in Midwest) Thursday, Jan. 28, at 5:30 p.m. and Indianapolis (1st in Midwest), Saturday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m.
Nationally, Indianapolis is second in the country. The Rangers picked up national votes and are essentially No. 29.
