Moxley's goal salvages tie

Box Score

The UW-Parkside men's soccer team had its hands full with visiting Missouri S&T at Wood Road Field Friday afternoon. In the end, the score was deadlocked at 1-1. Ranger dominance the final 20 minutes of regulation plus overtime forced the tie and, it was S&T which needed to hang on.

The Rangers gained the tie by scoring with 4:13 left in regulation play. Jason Moxley controlled a header off of an S&T defender and powered in a shot from 30 yards away to knot things up and force overtime. It was Moxley's first goal of the season.

“That was one of the greatest goals I've seen because of the degree of difficulty and the situation of the game,” explained UW-Parkside associate head coach Jason Zitzke. “Their keeper never had a chance.”

Prior the Ranger equalizer, S&T played solid defensively.

“They play with 10 guys behind the ball and we were playing so slow that we could not get behind them,” said Zitzke of the first half. “We made adjustments at halftime and things started to improve.”

The Miners scored at 25:53 of the first half. Nick Landon tallied with assists from Trent Doerner and Ryan Muich.

“I'm proud of the way we battled back,” said UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps. “That shows some character on our part. However, the key is the players need to learn to make those adjustments on the field themselves and not wait until halftime.”

Jamie Lieberman was Parkside's starting goalkeeper, but had to leave the game in the first overtime with a hamstring issue. Lieberman made three saves in the game and Fischer did not need to make a save.

Parkside put nine shots on goal in the contest. The team had three corners and numerous chances in the extra sessions.

The Rangers will bring their undefeated 3-0-1 record when they travel to Upper Iowa for a non-conference game Sunday. The game starts at 5 p.m.
