Eight of 10 place in top four at UW-Oshkosh

 Three champions came from UW-Parkside and nine Rangers placed in the top four at the UW-Oshkosh open Sunday at the Kolf Sports Center. No team scores were kept.

Eddie Stefonek (157), Luke Rynish (174) and Luke Haag championed in their respective weight class.

Stefonek won by scores of 3-1 and 14-5 en route to the 157-pound championship match. He defeated Dan Rivers of Wisconsin, 10-3, in the title tilt.

Rynish cruised to victory, 17-3 and 10-3 going into the title match. He edged Dan Schulte of UW-LaCrosse, 5-3, to win the 174-pound bracket.

Haag won by a 7-0 shutout, then won by pin at 3:34 in the semi-finals. He took a 3-1 decision from Nick Matiash, an unattached wrestler, in the finals. Also at 184 pounds, Curtis Hines finished in third place.

Dillon Bera, wrestling unattached, scored a second place finish at 149 pounds. He won 12-7 and 6-4 before losing to Cole Schmitt of Wisconsin, 8-2.

Cody Zimmerman (125), Malachi Root (133) and Jon Treml (197) won their third place matches. Arik Yde finished in fourth place at 141 pounds.

UW-Parkside will travel to UW-Stevens Point for a dual meet Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m.

The Ranger wrestlers will compete in front of the home crowd Wednesday, Jan. 28, when UW-Oshkosh visits the DeSimone Gymnasium for a 7 p.m. dual meet.
