Ming sets record; Rangers win

Kayla Ming breaks UW-P's three-point record
Box Score

Kayla Ming etched her name in the UW-Parkside record books Thursday night. The Rangers were tangling with Quincy in the DeSimone Gymnasium. The new school record-holder for three-pointers in one season led her team to a 65-55 win over the Hawks.

Ming's third three-point shot of the game, which came with 18:47 left in the second half, broke a 14-year record set by Ann Schmidt, who previously had the record for most three-pointers made with 62. Ming had 20 points in the contest.

Overshadowed by Ming's record-setting night was Denise Mannella, who recorded a career high in points with 22. She completed her double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds.

The Rangers led, 36-17, at halftime, and extended its margin to 26 points at one juncture. A 13-0 run by the Hawks made a game of it. Quincy pulled to within 53-46 at its closest point, with 6:05 left in the contest. UW-Parkside then held off the Hawks.

The Rangers moved to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. Quincy, like the Rangers, is now 13-7 overall. The Hawks are 8-4 in league play.

UW-Parkside shot 40 percent for the game. A stingy Ranger defense limited their adversaries to just 30 percent shooting from the floor.

The league's leading scorer, Jessica Keller, paced the Hawk attack with 17 points.

Next up for the Rangers is a game with SIU Edwardsville Saturday, Feb. 9, at 1 p.m. It will be the last time UW-Parkside plays the Cougars before SIUE goes to NCAA Division I next season.

You can watch the Quincy game on Time Warner's rebroadcasts. It will air on Channel 32 in all of eastern Wisconsin and a good portion of central Wisconsin. For more information, click on:
