KWC pulls out overtime win

Box Score

The Kentucky Wesleyan College women's basketball team avenged a 27-point loss to the Rangers in Owensboro last month by notching a 67-61 overtime victory over UW-Parkside in the DeSimone Gymnasium Thursday night. The Panthers pulled away from a 59-59 deadlock at the end of regulation, out-scoring the Rangers 8-2 in the extra 5-minute session.

Kentucky Wesleyan led by as many as nine points with 11:26 to go in the first half. The visitors led throughout the first half; however, the Rangers trimmed the score to 33-31 at halftime.

Neither team led by more than five points in the second half. The Rangers scored the final two buckets of the second half to force the overtime. KWC had the final possession, but a missed jump shot ended the period.

Amanda Harnist drained a three-point shot with 1:42 to go in overtime, giving the Panthers the lead for good.

Kayla Ming led the Rangers in scoring with 24 points. Brittany Hogen gave UW-Parkside a spark off the bench scoring 15 points. Allison Smaglik added 11.

Harnist led the Kentucky Wesleyan effort with 13 points.

The win bumps the Panthers' record 12-10 overall and 6-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Rangers dropped their second game in a row and fell to 14-9overall and 8-7 in the GLVC.

UW-Parkside has a league bye on Saturday and will not return to action until Thursday, Feb. 21. The team will travel to Saint Joseph's College for a 5:30 p.m. game.
