A pair of men's races were part of the annual Lucian Rosa Cross Country Invitational held on UW-Parkside's Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course Saturday afternoon. A total of five collegiate teams and 56 runners finished the men's 5K race, while 28 collegiate squads and 283 runners participated in the 8K run.
Like the women's race, Lindenwood won the shorter distance in the men's event. Lindenwood had 40 points, just ahead of second place Shorter College. Host UW-Parkside did not field a full team for the 5K.
Individually, Nicolas Yegon and Julise Korir, both of Lindenwood, finished one-two in times of 15:35 and 15:37 respectively. Senior Rob Hansen (Racine, Wis./Horlick) was UW-Parkside's only runner in the race. He finished in 32nd in a time of 17:23.
In the men's 8K, Indiana Tech emerged as team champion with a low score of 36. Aquinas College was next best with 68. Host UW-Parkside finished in fifth place with 185.
Camron Walter of Indiana Tech led throughout the race and crossed the finish line first in 25:14. Teammate Matt Ditzler was second, 25:42. UW-Parkside's best was sophomore Rehan Mohmoud (Milwaukee, Wis./Thomas More) who was 16th in 26:26.
Others in UW-Parkside's top five include sophomore Ben Orvold (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton), 34th, 27:00; freshman Alex Mena (Mundelein, Ill/Mundelein), 40th 27:11; freshman Sam Albrecht (Racine, Wis./Horlick), 42nd, 27:14; and sophomore Dustin Baldwin (Ontario, Wis./Brookwood), 53rd, 27:37.
“Our men ran well today,” said UW-Parkside head coach Mike DeWitt. “We were looking at finishing sixth, seventh or eighth as a team, but we finished better. The guys looked pretty strong.”
