The UW-Parkside women's basketball team faced a sturdy test against visiting Missouri S&T (formerly Missouri-Rolla) Thursday night in the DeSimone Gymnasium. The Rangers led at the half at 29-26, but saw their lead slip away in a 65-56 defeat.
The win for the Miners boosts their record to a solid 11-2 overall. The team is 5-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference play. The Rangers dropped to 10-5 overall and are now 4-3 in the GLVC.
The Miners notched an eight-point lead just 6 minutes into the game. The Rangers forged their way back, taking a one-point lead just 4 minutes later.
A pair of foul shots by Kayla Ming and then a steal by Amanda Gibson which turned into a layup by Mackenzie Heise in the final 16 seconds allowed the home team to go into the lockerroom with the lead.
Missouri S&T took the lead for good at the 13:52 mark of the second half on a three-point shot by Lauren Dubbert.
Ming led the Rangers in scoring with 21 points. Gibson chipped in 11 before fouling out in the late stages of the contest. Heise added 10 points.
Tamara McCaskill led a quartet of Miners in double digits with 17 points.
UW-Parkside shot 34 percent for the game. Missouri S&T made good on 45 percent of its shots.
The Rangers will look to rebound against Missouri-St. Louis Saturday, Jan. 19. The game will be played at UW-Parkside's DeSimone Gymnasium starting at 1 p.m.
