Rangers fall on road

Victor Perez

In the Great Lakes Valley Conference opener in Louisville Friday night, the UW-Parkside men's soccer team fell to host Bellarmine, 2-0. The match ended a four-game winning streak which the Rangers amassed to open the regular season.

The Knights put eight shots on goal against netminder Jamie Lieberman. The home team put in goals late in the second half, at 85:16 and 89:21.

UW-Parkside put four shots on net.

It was the first win for the Knights over UW-Parkside in 14 attempts. The series began in 1992.

Two GLVC heavyweights met in Wilder, Kentucky, Sunday afternoon and the host Northern Kentucky Norse scored a 1-0 win over UW-Parkside. Northern Kentucky broke a 0-0 standoff with a goal at 85:13 to win the game in front of the home fans in thrilling fashion.

A stingy Northern Kentucky defense limited the Rangers to just two shots on goal. UW-Parkside goalkeeper Victor Perez saved six of the seven shots he faced.

The Rangers look to return to their winning ways when they host Missouri-Rolla at Wood Road Field Friday, Sept. 14, at 3:30 p.m.
