A total of 110 minutes of soccer produced a stalemate at Wood Road Field Friday afternoon. The UW-Parkside men's soccer team scored the first two goals of the game and visiting Indianapolis tallied the next two leaving the contest at a 2-2 standoff.
Neither team scored in the first half. Three goals were scored in a span of 5 minutes and 31 seconds early in the second half. UW-Parkside's Ben Kreple (Traverse City, Mich.) got things going with assists from Bojan Jovicic (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Kyle Stephenson (Racine, Wis.) at 48:06. Jovicic followed up with a goal off of a free kick at 52:05, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead.
The Greyhounds countered with a quick answer at 53:37 as Brian Fishback beat Ranger goalkeeper Jamie Lieberman (Racine, Wis.) from 30 yards out. Indianapolis scored its second goal at 75:20 when Mar Wane found the back of the net.
"The fact that we could not hold the lead was disappointing," said UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps. "On the other hand, it was a positive that we went out to a 2-0 lead."
Each team put eight shots on goal.
"We had it won and let it get away. We have a young, inexperienced team and it showed in this situation," reasoned Kilps.
Indianapolis came into the contest as the second place team in the 14-team Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Greyhounds are now 9-1-2 overall and are still undefeated in league play at 6-0-1. UW-Parkside is 6-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the GLVC.
"We had a good group of kids competing hard and wanting to win," said Kilps. "I would have like to have seen us get the win for them."
