Nothing was decided in a women's soccer game at Wood Road Field Sunday afternoon. Host UW-Parkside and Missouri-St. Louis battled to a 1-1 stalemate.
"It was the result both teams deserved, a tie," said UW-Parkside head coach Troy Fabiano.
Each team scored in the first half. The Tritons got on the scoreboard first when Rachel Lee found the back of the net, set up by Amy Fox. The goal, scored 14:40 into the game, came on a header.
The Rangers knotted things up at 33:24. Becky Zirlin (Skokie, Illinois) scored on assists from Brittany Kaim (Palos Hills, Illinois) and Kahili Cheng (Kailua, Hawaii).
Missouri-St. Louis had four shots on goal against Ranger goalkeeper Erica Higuchi (Norcross, Georgia). UW-Parkside put four shots on net.
"We had better opportunities than Missouri-St. Louis did," noted Fabiano. "Sometimes you need a little luck to win a tight game and we did not get that today."
The tie leaves the Rangers with a 5-1-1 overall record. The team is 2-1-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Rangers will take to the road for a game at SIU Edwardsville Friday, Sept. 21, at 5 p.m. The road trip continues Sunday, Sept. 23, at Quincy for a noon kickoff.
