The allotted 40 minutes of regulation play could not determine a winner between UW-Parkside and Upper Iowa in a women's basketball game at the DeSimone Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The teams were deadlocked at 60 at the end of 40 minutes, before the Rangers out-scored the Peacocks, 4-1, in the extra 5-minute session in posting a 64-61 victory.
UW-Parkside is now 6-0 on the home court and has won four games in a row. The team is 7-3 overall after its last non-conference game.
Neither team led by more than six points in the tightly contested match-up. Regulation play ended with Upper Iowa's Andrea Downs drilling a three-point shot from the top of the key with 4 seconds left. The Rangers could not score on their final possession and the game went into overtime.
In the extra session, Kayla Ming canned a three-point shot a minute into overtime, allowing the Rangers to play from the lead. Denise Mannella made one of two free throw attempts with 2:19 left to give UW-Parkside a 64-60 advantage.
Upper Iowa's only point in overtime was a free throw by Brittney Iredale with 56 seconds left. Andrea Downs had a three-point shot in an attempt to tie the game with 3 seconds left, but it fell off the mark and the Rangers held on for the victory.
Ming led the Rangers with 20 points. Mannella chipped in 13 points off the bench. Point guard Amanda Gibson scored 12 points and dished out five assists.
Iredale led all scorers with 21 points. Downs had 18.
Each team shot 41 percent for the game. Upper Iowa out-rebounded the Rangers, 42-32.
