The Alverno Inferno, a newer NCAA Division III affiliate, gave a good account of themselves at the DeSimone Gymnasium Monday night; however, a superior UW-Parkside team controlled the game and won easily, 74-40.
The win bumped the Ranger record to 5-3 overall with two more non-conference games left on the docket. The Inferno fell to 2-8 overall.
UW-Parkside jumped out to a 21-6 lead in the first 9 minutes of play. The squad headed the Inferno by a 35-19 count at intermission. The lead gradually swelled to its final margin.
Amanda Gibson (Boulder Junction, Wis.) led a trio of Rangers in double digit scoring with 15 points. Denise Mannella (Walworth, Wis.) notched 14 points and Mackenzie Heise (Omro, Wis.) chipped in a dozen. Nine Rangers scored and a dozen UW-P players made it into the rebound column, headed by Heise and Chelsey Schadler (Mazomanie, Wis.) with seven each.
UW-Parkside shot 41 percent from the floor and limited the Inferno to 32 percent shooting. The Rangers dominated on the glass, out-rebounding their guests from Milwaukee by a 49-24 count.
UW-Parkside will next take on Northwood, of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, at the DeSimone Gymnasium Friday, Dec. 21, at 5 p.m. The final non-conference clash is Saturday, Dec. 29, against Upper Iowa at the DeSimone Gymnasium.
