The last game of the regular season required extra time; however, the UW-Parkside men's soccer team won at Upper Iowa, 1-0, in overtime. Andrew Gamarra (Lexington, Kent.) terminated the game at the 95:57 mark on an assist from Johnson Thao (St. Paul, Minn.). It was Gamarra's fifth goal of the season.
The Rangers played the non-conference match not knowing their post-season fate. While the Rangers were battling the Peacocks early in the second half, Northern Kentucky had just finished off Drury, 2-0, knocking Drury out of the No. 8 seed. The Rangers leap-frogged Drury to take the No. 8 seed. UW-Parkside will play at the nation's No. 1 ranked team, Northern Kentucky, Sunday, Oct. 28, at 2:30 p.m. EST, in a Great Lakes Valley Conference quarterfinal match. The Rangers have qualified for the league tournament each season since joining the circuit in 1995.
UW-Parkside lost at Northern Kentucky, 1-0, back on Sept. 9.
"We dominated the game at Upper Iowa, but just couldn't score," said UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps. "And, it was a solid game defensively for us."
The Rangers end the regular season with an 11-6-1 overall record.
