Playoff fate out of Rangers' hands

Senior Goalkeeper Victor Perez

It was the last Great Lakes Valley Conference match of the year for the UW-Parkside men's soccer team at Lewis Friday afternoon. And, it was a 1-0 loss to 23rd-ranked Lewis at windy and wet Romeoville, Illinois.

The loss means the Rangers will need a Drury loss or tie Sunday afternoon if they are to make the league tournament. UW-P will be at Upper Iowa playing a non-conference game which concludes the regular season on Sunday. The encouraging news for UW-Parkside is Drury will be playing against Northern Kentucky, which is ranked No. 1 in the country with a 17-0 overall record.

At Lewis, the Flyers scored at 17:09. The goal came in off a throw in. Anthony Marsico was charging toward the goal and had a clear shot with a one-timer.

Ranger goalkeeper Victor Perez (Kenosha, Wis.) made five saves in the game, as did his counterpart from Lewis.

The Flyers are 13-4 overall and end league play with a 9-4 record. The Rangers are 10-6-1 and conclude GLVC action with an even .500 mark at 6-6-1.

Should Drury fail to win at Northern Kentucky, the Rangers will enter the tournament as the No. 8 seed and will have to play the undefeated Norse at Northern Kentucky Sunday, Oct. 28.
