The UW-Parkside men's soccer team has not failed to qualify for the Great Lakes Valley Conference post-season tournament since joining the circuit in 1994. This was in question heading into a conference match with visiting Drury Sunday afternoon. The Rangers stayed alive by notching a 2-0 win over the Panthers at a wet Wood Road Field.
"I really believe that if we are one of the eight teams to get into the tournament, we can win it," said UW-Parkside head coach Rick Kilps. "Anybody can beat anybody the way this league is going."
The Rangers came into the contest on the outside looking in, in ninth place. One league game is left to be played by UW-Parkside and that will be at Lewis Thursday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m.

Senior Josh Lechusz (Kenosha, Wis.) a defender, scored his first collegiate goal in his final home game. Lechusz scored the game-winner at 15:05 with an assist from Jose Alfaro off of a corner kick.
UW-Parkside held a 1-0 advantage at halftime, not allowing a single shot on goal on Ranger goalkeeper Victor Perez (Kenosha, Wis.).
In the second half, a pair of red cards were dealt to the Panthers, forcing them to play two players short. The red cards came at 71:07 and 75:45. The Rangers took advantage, scoring at 82:06. Zoran Jovicic (Milwaukee, Wis.) notched a goal with assists from Andrew Gamarra (Lexington, Kent.) and brother Bojan Jovicic (Milwaukee, Wis.).
The Rangers moved to 10-5-1 overall and 6-5-1 in league play. Drury fell to 12-5-0 overall and 6-5-0 in the GLVC.
"It's good to beat a team ahead of us in the standings," said Kilps. "It is important for us in that we are all jockeying for position late in the season."
The Rangers had four yellow cards, while Drury was given three yellows and the two reds.
"It was an intense game and I thought we played composed under the circumstances," reasoned Kilps. "I was proud of how our guys kept their composure."
