The Ranger women's soccer team knocked off Rockhurst, a team which came into a Great Lakes Valley conference match at Wood Road Field in fourth place in the league standings. UW-Parkside came into the contest looking to make up some ground in eighth.
After the Hawks scored the first goal of the game, the Rangers answered with three consecutive goals in posting a 3-1 win. The victory upped the Ranger record to 9-4-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the GLVC. Rockhurst fell to 9-4-1 overall and 6-4-0 in league play.
"It was a good win for a young team," said UW-Parkside head coach Troy Fabiano. "When Rockhurst scored that first goal of the game, it kind of woke us up.
Lisa Schwarz put the Hawks on the scoreboard just 10:05 into the game.
UW-Parkside's Kelly Teeters (Hubertus, Wis.) scored less than 5 minutes after at 14:57 on an assist from Brittany Kaim (Palos Hills, Ill.) to knot the score at 1-1. Teeters tallied again shortly after her first goal. Once again she found the back of the net, this time at 17:35 with an assist from Kelsey Krzyzaniak(Dearborn, Wis.).
The Rangers tacked on a third goal a mere 10 seconds before the first half came to a close. Krzyzanaik tallied with help from Ashley Varns (Chatham, Ill.).
"Getting that third goal before the half ended really hurt Rockhurst," said Fabiano. "We kept possession in the second half and defended well as a team to close it out."
Each team had seven shots on goal.
The Rangers will host Drury Sunday, Oct. 14, at noon, at Wood Road Field.
