Kristin Ortman enters her seventh season as the head softball coach at Parkside in 2023. Ortman came to Parkside after spending seven years as the head coach at Alverno College in Milwaukee.

2023 was a year of improvement for Ortman's Rangers, finishing the season 19-32 overall and 4-22 in GLIAC play. The Rangers more than doubled their win total from the season previous and it would be the Rangers best season since 2018. Ortman also captured her 100th career victory as the Rangers head coach in 2023 in Parkside's historic upset over Grand Valley State in the GLIAC Tournament. Not only was it her 100th victory as the Parkside head coach, but it would also lead to the program to their first GLIAC Championship berth.
Ortman and the Rangers struggled in 2022, finishing 8-41 overall and 4-22 in GLIAC play. This season also saw Parkside earn the eighth seed in the GLIAC Tournament, dropping the first game to first seed Grand Valley State. The Rangers saw some individual success this season, with Talyor Delgado being named First Team All-GLIAC, along with Rylee Baetz and Jadynn Powell being named All-GLIAC Honorable Mention.
In 2021, Ortman and the Rangers bounced back, compiling a 17-29 overall record with a 13-19 GLIAC record. They earned the No. 7 seed in the GLIAC tournament, but dropped both games on Day 1 to No. 2 Northwood and No. 3 Davenport. At the end of the season, Megan Aliverti was named First Team All-GLIAC, Allison Hausl was named Second Team All-GLIAC, and Taylor Delgado and Jessica Miklos were named All-GLIAC Honarable Mention.
In 2020, the season was shortened due to COVID-19. The Rangers only played 16 games that season, and Ortman led them to an 8-8 record.
In 2019, the Rangers struggled early on, but finished the final 19 games 8-11 to finish the season 8-44 overall. In the team's first year as a member of the GLIAC, Parkside went 5-25 and saw both Kellie Fenza and Adrien Hall named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC. During the season, Parkside had a five-winning streak and had a stretch where the team won 7-of-8 games.
In year two with the Rangers, Ortman led the team to a 21-27 finish, making it the first time since 2007 and 2008 that the program had back-to-back seasons with at least 19 wins. Along the way, Ortman saw Parkside earn some big victories, including a doubleheader sweep of eventual NCAA Division II National Champion Southern Indiana. At the end of the season, Jessica Shields was named Third Team All-Conference and Bridget Jost won the GLVC Council of President's Award.
In just her first season at the helm of the Ranger program in 2017, she led the team to a 19-29 overall record while finishing 13-15 in the GLVC. Ortman saw the Rangers excel at home, finishing the year 10-6 at Case Softball Complex.
Following her first season, Ortman saw senior pitcher Carly Dundee named the school's first D2CCA All-Region honoree since the 2010 season. Dundee also was named First Team All-GLVC after finishing the year with a 2.80 ERA and three saves. She struck out 101 batters in 177.1 innings and recorded two shutouts. She pitched the Rangers to wins over nationally-ranked Grand Valley State and Indianapolis during the season.
While at Alverno, Ortman orchestrated a successful turnaround that saw four of the five winningest seasons in school history during her tenure.
Alverno had only three seasons with double-figure victories prior to her arrival and Ortman reached double digits in wins in all seven of her seasons as the head coach of the Infernos. She set school records for career victories, wins in a single season, conference victories, conference wins in a season and team earned run average for a single season.
During her time at Alverno, Ortman had 14 players recognized by the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference as Scholar Athletes, coached 12 all-conference players and two players who earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Region honors.
Ortman was a standout Division I pitcher at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay where she garnered First Team All-Horizon League honors during her senior season. During that season in which the Phoenix won the conference title and a trip to the NCAA Tournament, Ortman boasted a 2.12 earned run average, which was third in the Horizon League, with 80 strikeouts and a 9-5 record in the circle. She also racked up Second Team All-Conference recognition in 2003 and 2004.
The New Berlin, Wis., native was also part of a successful program at Eisenhower High School earning trips to the state tournament her junior and senior years. She set a state tournament record when she struck out 16 batters in a game against Verona Area High School in 2001.
Ortman graduated from UW-Green Bay in 2005 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
