(Mar. 8, 2015)-- The University of Wisconsin-Parkside women's basketball team was one of the 64 teams selected to the 2015 NCAA Division II Tournament on Sunday night, earning the seventh seed in the Midwest Region and will ship off to the Upper Peninsula to face rival and second seed Lewis University.
The Rangers (22-7) and Great Lakes Valley Conference East Division rival Lewis (28-2) will square off on Friday inside Michigan Tech University's SDC Gymnasium in Houghton, Michigan. UW-Parkside and GLVC East Division Champion Lewis have squared off two previous times this season with the Flyers winning 76-61 on Dec. 4 in Romeoville, Illinois while prevailing 60-46 in the regular season finale on Feb. 26 in Somers. Game time is yet to be determined.
The Rangers will be making its sixth appearance in the big dance, also earning a bid during the 2012-2013, 2011-2012, 2010-2011, 2009-2010, and 2004-2005 campaigns. UW-Parkside has advanced past the first round in each of its previous three appearances while earning a spot in the Sweet 16 during tournament runs in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012.
The winner of Friday's skirmish between UW-Parkside and Lewis will face the winner of the Drury University (27-3) and Wayne State University (22-5) game on Saturday. Drury enters as the third seed after winning the GLVC Tournament title while Wayne State is the sixth seed as an at-large selection.
Host and top-seeded Michigan Tech (27-2), champion of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, will face Great Midwest Athletic Conference Champion and eighth-seeded Cedarville University (27-3). Fourth-seeded University of Southern Indiana (25-7) and fifth-seeded Ashland University (23-8) round out the Midwest Region. The Regional Championship will be contested on Monday night with the regional champion advancing to the Elite Eight in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
UW-Parkside owns a 5-5 all-time record in the NCAA Tournament, including a 59-49 win at the expense of Lewis in the opening round of the 2013 Tournament.
