Official GLVC Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 22, 2014)-- The Great Lakes Valley Conference released its weekly award winners on Monday afternoon with University of Wisconsin-Parkside's Emily Konior landing GLVC Women's Soccer Defender of the Week accolades.

The senior criminal justice major helped the 23rd-ranked Rangers (5-0-1, 3-0-1 GLVC) finish the weekend undefeated to claim the top position in the GLVC standings. UW-Parkside sits perched atop the league table as the only team with three wins and no losses after downing 20th-ranked Rockhurst University 2-1 on Friday and blanking William Jewell College 4-0 on Sunday.

Konior was on the field for 178 of the 180 minutes played over the weekend, anchoring a defensive unit that yielded just three shots on goal all weekend while posting the squad's fifth shutout of the year. The defender played all 90 minutes in the Rangers dramatic 2-1 win over nationally-ranked Rockhurst on Friday while scoring a free kick goal in the 47th minute on Sunday in Parkside's shutout win over William Jewell. Konior played in all but two minutes of the Jewell game while notching her third goal of the season on her only shot attempt of the game.

The Huntley, Illinois native is the second Ranger to win GLVC Defensive Player of the Week accolades this season with teammate Karley Mecko winning the award on Sept. 8.

UW-Parkside returns to the pitch on Friday, traveling to Evansville, Indiana to face the University of Southern Indiana. Kickoff for the GLVC showdown is slated for 5 p.m.
