QUINCY, Ill. (Nov. 9, 2012)-- A pair of second half goals and stout defense lifted the University of Wisconsin-Parkside past No. 22 William Jewell College, 2-0, on Friday evening at North Campus Field in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championships.

With the victory, sixth-seeded UW-Parkside (13-4-1) advances to the second round for the third consecutive season. The Rangers will face host and second-seeded Quincy University on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Midwest Region semi-finals.

Kaela Hoecherl broke open the deadlock in the 59th minute, beating the Cardinals' keeper with a shot from 10 yards out on the right wing off a feed from Megan Owens. The goal was the redshirt sophomore's fourth in as many games and her second game winner in that stretch.

Jasmine Espino tacked on an insurance goal in the 74th minute, doubling the Rangers' advantage, scoring from 10 yards out off an assist from Ashley Meyer. The goal was Espino's fourth of the year while Meyer tallies her fifth helper of the 2012 campaign.

The two squads battled to a scoreless opening half with third-seeded William Jewell (15-3-3) holding an 11-5 edge in shots. The tide turned in the second half as the Rangers outshot the Cardinals 7-6 in the second 45 minutes of action while holding a 3-1 edge in shots on frame down the stretch,

Michelle Girard tallied the shutout, logging all 90 minutes between the posts. The sophomore keeper turned away eight shots on the night, with seven of those saves coming in the first half of play. UWP has now logged nine shutouts on the season including eight over the last nine games. Jewell's Kelli Sontag suffered the loss, yielded a pair of goals and recording a pair of saves in the complete game effort.

The game was a bit of revenge for the Rangers after falling 2-0 to Jewell in the regular season on Sept. 16 in Liberty, Mo. after conceding a pair of second half scores.

This is UW-Parkside's sixth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and the third trip in as many years. UW-Parkside previously qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2011, 2010, 2008, 2004 and 2003.
